* % Daily Value shows how much one serving adds to a 2,000-calorie day. † Net carbs is not on US labels; it is total carbs minus fiber, allulose, erythritol and half of other sugar alcohols. "To taste" amounts are counted as written. Counted items (eggs, cloves, spoons) use the rounded amount shown in the ingredient list. Vitamins and minerals are from raw ingredients; cooking lowers some, especially vitamin C and folate. How this is calculated.

Steps

  1. Put the turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, pepper and allulose in a small pot. Add 2 tbsp of the almond milk and stir to a paste.

Done looks like: Smooth orange paste, no dry powder.
  2. Stir in the rest of the almond milk. Heat on medium, stirring now and then, until steaming. Don't let it boil.

Done looks like: Wisps of steam and tiny bubbles at the edge, after about 3–4 minutes.
  3. Pour through a small sieve into a mug to catch the ginger. Taste and add allulose if you like it sweeter.

Equipment

Medium pot with lid, about 2 L (2 qt) $15–35

What to look for

  • Lid that fits snugly
  • Thick base so it does not scorch

Skip: Glass lids that fog up are fine; copper is not needed.

What goes wrong

WhatCauseFix
Gritty, powder at the bottom of the mugThe spices went straight into all the milk and clumped.Make the paste first. Stir the mug before each sip; turmeric settles.
Thin and wateryAlmond milk has little body.Stir in 1 tbsp heavy cream, or make the nut-free version with dairy milk.
